What does your config file look like? What user is the service running under? Does it have SSAS admin permissions?

Is the service running under the mikeymo account? Is that account an SSAS admin on one database or the whole instance? Of you connect Profiler to SSAS what do you observe when you start the ASTrace service?

Reading the stack trace, it may be that user doesn't have permissions to write to the event log. Can you temporarily make this user a server admin and see if it succeeds then? If so we can research the minimal way of granting event log write access.
